In Amish Country, traffic habits are different from the ordinary. Travelers need to be alert and cautious and watch for the slow moving horse and buggies. Reduced speed and assured clear distance is important for safety.

Though friendly and congenial, members of the Amish faith prefer not to be photographed. Additional information on the history, culture, and lifestyle of the Amish and Mennonite people can be found at the Amish & Mennonite Heritage Information Center located off County Road 77 east of Berlin. Here you will find a 265' mural-in-the-round entitled "Behalt". Painted by internationally known artist Heinz Gaugel, the mural depicts the history of the Amish, Mennonite, and Hutterite people. A free viewing of their video of the local Amish - Mennonite community is also a good preparation for your visit to the area. Behalt also has a large selection of books on Amish and Mennonites, international crafts, an art gallery, and sparkling clean restrooms.
